Considering who the author is, it's remarkably accessible.

Copland would not like most jazz clubs. Not because of the music itself (he found jazz to be "real fun"), but because of the lack of real listening. Copland would agree that exposure counts for a lot (as do I), but the Maestro's book was part pleading for music to not become simply pleasant background noise.JSnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608328763829731453.post-21311714977041922272011-01-06T20:05:56.359-08:002011-01-06T20:05:56.359-08:00Chris Potter would be terrific, I agree. One is Barry Kernfeld's "What to Listen for in Jazz," the other is Tom Piazza's "Understanding Jazz: Ways to Listen." Stefan would probably not approve of either. I haven't read Copland's book--do you like it?Pamela Espelandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17239608155646396942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608328763829731453.post-13928731782710536512011-01-06T18:37:11.679-08:002011-01-06T18:37:11.679-08:00And a query inspired by your jazz class: is there ...And a query inspired by your jazz class: is there anything for jazz listening comparable to Aaron Copland's "What To Listen for in Music"?JSnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608328763829731453.post-9073655662679885432011-01-06T18:13:53.883-08:002011-01-06T18:13:53.883-08:00Did we receive the same replacement offer as Des M...Did we receive the same replacement offer as Des Moines?
